Spotlight on: Maeve S Hi, my name is Maeve. I am nine years old and in fourth grade. This is my fourth year dancing (and dancing, and dancing and dancing at home). My favorite things about Irish dancing are the friends that I have made and the dance outs I have done. I have a younger sister, Sinéad, who dances with me. That makes it fun too. I have an older brother, Seamus, who doesn’t dance, but plays soccer. He dances with us at home, and should maybe stick to soccer. When I am not dancing, I like to play soccer (Seamus says I should stick to dancing). I also like to sew, cook and hang out with friends. In the summer I like to swim and play tennis. I really like to bake with my mom and my sister - brownies, if mom will let us. The older dancers at O’Keefe are really nice. I might be a little shy. The first year I was around the older dancers, I smiled when they said “hi”. I am pretty sure it counted, but this year I am definitely going to say “hi” back. I really like dancing at O’Keefe. I have made friends and had lots of fun!

Spotlight on: Colleen L Hi, my name is Colleen and I am 11 years old. I am in sixth grade. This is my second year of Irish dancing. I enjoy making new friends at O’Keefe. Kathleen is a great teacher and I look forward to going to class each week. My favorite dance is the reel. I recently performed a three hand reel at a dance out. It is a fun dance to do with my friends. I was really excited to go to my first feis last year and very happy to bring home two medals. I have a younger brother named Sean and he loves to play basketball, baseball and soccer. I also have a poodle named Sophie. She just celebrated her first birthday. Besides Irish dancing, I play soccer and softball. I also sing in the school chorus and I am active in the drama club. Irish dancing is a lot of fun and I love it!
Spotlight on: Olivia A Hi! My name is Olivia and I am 5 1/2 years old. I am in Kindergarten at Seton Catholic School. This is my first year of Irish dancing, but I have been dancing (tap and ballet) since I was 2 1/2. I have two younger brothers. Connor is 3 and CJ is 4 months old. My favorite part of Irish dancing is when I get to dance with the big kids. When I am not Irish dancing I love to swim, ride my scooter, color, and draw. My favorite foods are pretzels and candy. I also love Hannah Montana and High School Musical. Someday, when I grow up, I hope to be a teenager and later, a teacher. I love Irish dancing because I get to be with my friends. It is a lot of fun!
Spotlight on: Erin M Hi, my name is Erin. I just turned 13 years old and am in the 7th grade at Martha Brown Middle School. I have been dancing for about eight years and have enjoyed each year very much. My favorite things about Irish Dancing are the friends I’ve made and dancing for others. I love going to dance outs and performing for the audience. It makes me feel good when I can put a smile on another’s face. I also look forward to class each week to improve. Kathleen and Amanda are great teachers and I always have fun in class. I have an older brother, Matt, who enjoys showing his Irish heritage too! He plays the guitar and piano and tries other various instruments including the penny whistle. I also have two friendly dogs named Lucy and Peppermint Patty. Patty is eight and Lucy is one. We named both of them after the characters from Charlie Brown and the Peanuts by Charles Schwartz, which is a family favorite. When I am not dancing I like to play the piano, hang out with my friends, go shopping, cook, sew and knit or some other craft. In the summertime I enjoy working in my garden! In school my favorite subject is Spanish. It is my first year taking a foreign language and I absolutely love it! My other favorite class in school is choir. My school recently had a musical, Bye Bye Birdie, and I was in the Crew and got to create the costumes and also worked at the make-up station. I have so much fun dancing and I always will!
